It isn’t just the Right, Rachel

Living wills can be disregarded when a patient has no insurance. Those of us with disabilities are particularly vulnerable to signing when counseled….able bureaucrats are not competent, IMJ to counsel a vulnerable population about the scope and nature of a DNR, if signed, and to judge from the outside, the quality of life with people with impairments.

See the “Not Dead Yet” website for progressive opposition to the counseling to sign a DNR.

I’m disappointed that the staff didn’t do more research on this, ordinarily l love your show.

and why isn’t a similar reimbursment for such a discussion included in reform proposals for public option or a private insurance mandate?

If you’re going to reimburse for that counseling session, reimburse across the board and not just for vulnerable populations. It’s not a “death panel” but I refuse to soften my position that it feels like targeting.
