Picks from the chair, for the Oscars

I’ve not seen all the nominees but…

Best Supporting Actor—Phillip Seymour Hoffman for his turn in “Charlie Wilson’s War,”

What a prickly delightful grouch he was.

Best Supporting Actress: Ruby Dee in “American Gangster.”

Best Actor: My loyalty is showing. I have a favored list of men who aren’t handsome who can act, and Tommy Lee Jones is at the top. I’ve loved his work for about 15 years and I’m hoping he brings it home for “In the Valley of Elah.” (

Best Actress: Laura Linney in “The Savages” another loyalty vote. I’d tell you which movie she first struck me in, but that would be giving blog space to Clint Eastwood and since his ant-disability ridiculousness…huh uh, Nope.

Best Picture…havent seen any of these yet, (updated…I have seen “Michael Clayton” this afternoon… ) but I plan to catch at least one today via cable…

My vote, based on the actors and the story and the cinematography I’ve heard about, might have to be either “No Country for Old Men” or “Michael Clayton”

Why haven’t I mentioned “Away from Her?”

‘Cause I hate to watch movies or TV regarding Alzheimers.
