Mindless reading…

Mike Wallace’s second autobiographical tome is cheerfully self congratulatory, and I don’t mind. If I had lived as long as he has and done what he did I’d be just as out front with my ego (yes, yes, catcalls from the back of the room noting that I’m *already* that self congratulatory, duly noted)

I like hearing about his early days of gotcha journalism even as I suspect that he *didn’t* actually save the word [world?] all by himself in the 50’s 60’s or 70’s.

besides sifting past his own bias to get at what actually happened is half the fun.

Back when I thought I was going to be an historian, that’s what we got taught. Read the first person accounts and add your grain of salt based on the chroniclers bias.

I’m also cheerful about the fact that I can now buy a book every now and again.
