Too Little Too Late?

July 29, 2005 at 2:14 PM (TennCare)

The TennCare vigil is hitting day 40, and a Tennessee judge gave a partial ruling that might keep the 97,000 most medically needy from losing their prescription drugs.

But lawyers for the state are saying half a ruling may not be enough. They say that 93 million dollars is needed and that 46 million dollars won’t save the sickest from losing their prescriptions.

I haven’t heard of a Colorado vigil, so I’m just going to hold my own personal candlelit time on Sunday. If there *is* a vigil in my homestate I’d appreciate anybody involved dropping me a line through the email link to my site.

If anyone more mobile than myself over at Colorado ADAPT or Cross Disability Coalition is holding a vigil or thinking of holding one in support of the TennCare folk in Tennesee about to lose their benefits, let me know.

But one thing that peeves me. The Tennesee press has hold of this, and the disability community does too.

The national media are non existent. (I see. The sick and dying and eventually dead in Tenessee would only be worth reporting about if they were in California or New York (But from what I hear New York has its own Medicaid Problem that it doesn’t want discussed.)

When the first patient actually dies from lack of care caused by these Tenn Care cuts I’d bet all the money I could that there *will* be a crocodile tears, national media story.

Too little, too late.
